Energy Code Training (Online Webinar)

May 5, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

In 2017-2018, DHCD worked with Viridiant, building code officials, and the Home Builders Association of Virginia to complete a Department of Energy-funded field study on how well the 2012 energy code is being implemented in homes in Virginia. We’re currently working to share the findings from that study and provide training to the industry. A draft summarizing the preliminary findings can be found here: Preliminary Findings Field Study. One of the findings was that approximately ¾ of the tested duct systems had higher duct leakage than code allows. With the 2015 code requiring duct testing and making the leakage threshold more stringent, we want to make sure the industry is prepared.

Viridiant has received funding from the US Department of Energy and Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance to offer 8 in-person trainings to mechanical installers, builders and architects across the state of Virginia. The intent is to offer these trainings free of charge and we are also able to offer 2 AIA/CES HSW learning units. The 2-hour training will focus on the changes in the 2015 Virginia Energy Conservation Code around residential duct tightness and testing. It will also cover the results of the field study mentioned above, best practice for complying with the new code, and how to find qualified duct testers. We are also providing training to code officials on how to enforce these new measures, so we want to be sure builders are well-prepared.

This course qualifies for 2 AIA/CES Learning Units (HSW).
